The Destroy Trap spell, disarms booby trapped chests.
Spell Description[edit]
Adventurers will often find chests promising rich reward, but will frequently be booby trapped with invisible traps. Corridors littered with human remains are suspicious, and chests can contain acid, poison, sleep, or bomb traps. However, defense against these traps is possible. After discerning the location of these traps with the Detect Trap spell, they can be safely disarmed with Destroy Trap, allowing the magician to either safely pass or gather the loot.
In Ultima III, the spell Appar Unem fulfilled the same purpose. The Open spell of Ultima IV and Ultima V, when used to open trapped chests, also included the Destroy Trap effect. The Ultima VI spell Trap on the other hand can create a new trap.

- The spell was omitted from the C64-port of Ultima VI.
- The spell works on all traps in Ultima VII and Ultima VII Part Two, not only those in chests. This is a blessing in the latter game, which has dungeons liberally sprinkled with shooter traps.
- There is a rather mean trap in front of the Tetrahedron Generator which can be disarmed with this spell.
- On Pagan there are spell scrolls with the same effect as this spell, though one has to stay away as the trapped chests always let loose an explosion.
