Translation is a spell that give the caster the insight to read foreign texts. The actual effect is to simply transliterates the alphabet, without affecting the language.
Spell Description[edit]
Not all languages or even alphabets on Serpent Isle are the same. Casting Translation grants the caster temporary divination of foreign languages, including those written in the ancient Ophidian alphabet as well as runic script. The value of such a spell was even seen by Erstam in Beyond the Serpent Pillars, as even he had troubles with the alphabet of the Ophidians, the letters not being intuitive.
The lens found in the library of Monk Isle performs the same function, but is restricted to the library.
Lore[edit]
“ | Once cast, this spell temporarily enables its subject to understand unknown languages, including ancient runes and text. It is very useful for the scholarly mage. |

Trivia[edit]
- There are at least two points where using this spell actually makes it more difficult to progress. These are the entrance to Skullcrusher and the Temple of Logic. Without the spell in effect, it is possible to match the Ophidian letters.
