Douse is a spell to extinguish a minor fire.
Description[edit]
Due to the fact that mages often work with fire – which sometimes is difficult to douse – this spell is essential for the mage in order to put out those fires, regardless if it may be natural or magical in origin. It is the opposite spell to Ignite. However, this spell is limited in that it can only put out small fires. Fire fields will resist Douse – for that the spell Dispel Field is needed. While already having low requirements when first made available, it eventually became a linear spell, no longer consuming mana or reagents.
If every fire in sight has to be doused, however, then the Great Douse spell is more efficient.
Lore[edit]
“ | Extinguishes flames. – from Compendium (Ultima VI)

“ | This spell extinguishes any small, non-magical fire. – from The Book of Fellowship (Ultima VII)
|

“ | The foil of the Ignite spell, Douse extinguishes flame in a given location. When Arduin ignited the corn crib, he discovered that Douse has limited application and is not suitable for larger fires. Since then, Arduin has mastered the casting and finds frequent use in dousing the pranks of Grimwar, who seems to prefer the destructiveness of Ignite. |
