The Temple of Discipline is one of the six temples sacred to the forces that form Order, Chaos and Balance and once belonged to Order. It appears in Ultima VII Part Two.
Description[edit]
Situated underground at the northern coast of Serpent Isle, the Temple of Discipline demands from everyone to prove their discipline before they are allowed to drink from the Water of Discipline. This perversely translates into puddles of very deadly acid blocking the way, thus raising the question if one was even meant to succeed at the test. The temple also houses the machine once used by the forces of Order to transfer the minds of those deemed worthy into automatons. Additionally, the temple does house the prison of the Wantoness Bane.
History[edit]
During the time of the War of Imbalance, Order used the temple to transfer the minds of their - in their opinion - most disciplined followers into metal bodies, in the process causing them to lose the warm human qualities and instead focusing on single-minded ruthless efficiency. Once the Chaos Serpent got ripped into pieces, the resulting Bane representing Wantoness was imprisoned inside the temple in a special prison, before Order left the lands forever.
Many years later, Batlin broke open the prison, causing the Bane to escape, damaging the guardian automatons in the process. The Avatar later had to get the water to heal Dupre from his insanity. Yet, the Avatar was unable to reach the water at first due to the pools of acid that blocked the way. However, searching the temple revealed that it was used to transfer the minds of people into automatons. Since Isstanar had told the Avatar about it earlier and due to a vision from the Place of Visions, the Avatar asked Petra for help, since her metal body was immune to acid. Therefore doing a temporary body swap with her, the Avatar was able to get the water.
Trivia[edit]
- Generous use of yellow potions actually is enough to get through the acid without dying, the body swap is entirely optional.
