The Temple of Tolerance is one of the six temples sacred to the forces that form Order, Chaos and Balance, and used to belong to Chaos and appears in Ultima VII Part Two.

Description[edit]

The temple is situated at the northern coast of Serpent Isle and besides lowering a drawbridge little is stopping people from reaching the altar in the middle of the pond, where normal water can be turned into the water of Tolerance. Additionally, it houses the treasury of Chaos behind secret walls that are impossible to open from the outside. The temple also contains the Web of Fate, an artifact that allows scrying over large distances - especially towards the perversion of Tolerance: Anarchy.

History[edit]

The Temple of Tolerance was invaded by the forces of Order during the War of Imbalance, murdering everyone inside by burning them to death at the stake. However, they were unable to get to Sethys, who had locked himself into a cell, nor could they plunder the treasures of the temple. Once the war was over, the temple fell into the mists of history.

Many years later the Avatar had to get the water of Tolerance to create a fitting soul prism of the Bane of Anarchy. Surprisingly, Mortegro from Moonshade was trapped there after being teleported by a storm, exchanged with the altar of Tolerance. The Avatar freed him after getting the key. The altar was now found in Gustacio's manor in Moonshade. The Web of Fate, could be used as well to spy on the Bane of Anarchy. Later the Avatar had to free Sethys, who was still trapped in the temple, in order to speak with the Chaos Hierophant. However, once he left the temple, he promptly aged centuries and died.

Trivia[edit]

  • According to Yurel, he had lived a long time at the Temple of Tolerance, until the outbreak of the War of Imbalance.
