West of Monk Isle on the Serpent Isle lie the two islands that are known as the Isles of the Mad Mage. They appear in Ultima VII Part Two.
Description[edit]
The islands are named for the ancient mage Erstam, who lives there, conducting secret experiments far away from any civilization. Rumors about these experiments are fantastic to downright bizarre, but no one gives into curiousity, since Erstam hates unexpected visitors and is known to be less than gentle with those who annoy him. Reaching the islands is difficult anyway. Those not holding the magic of teleportation either need to use a ship or have to know how to call Erstam's pet, a giant turtle, for transportation.
Apart from Erstam's cottage, there is also a small island to the north that is unreachable by ship. The remains of the great phoenix reside within this island.

- In a part of the island that is only accessible through cheating, one of the Ultima VII Part Two cheat rooms, the Avatar will find half-naked cheerleaders. The article describes how to access it.
- During the time of Ultima I the islands did contain a dungeon called "Morbid Adventure". The name fits strangely to Erstam's later actions on these same islands.
