Modern firearms
Modern firearms are not something the Avatar is normally expected to use – after all even the muskets in Britannia in Ultima VII are quite exotic. However, in the space- and time-shifted adventures of Savage Empire and Martian Dreams, these weapons are the most normal thing imaginable and can show off their destructive firepower.
Note that the M60 machine gun has a separate article.
Derringer[edit]
This little handgun in Martian Dreams is often called a "ladies' gun", since it is small and ideal to be hidden inside a woman's purse. While having the same stopping power as a revolver, the derringer suffers from the fact that one has to practically stand almost next to the target to shoot them. It would be smarter to quickly replace this weapon with the revolver, which uses the same ammunition as well.

Revelover[edit]
This is the standard handgun used in Martian Dreams. While having the same stopping power as the derringer, it is range is vastly superior to the smaller handgun. One can use two revolvers at the same time – one in each hand – for double the damage, but with lower accuracy. This is ideal for characters who have a higher dexterity but lower strength and thus would have more trouble with rifle weapons.
Stopping power: 2
Range: 3
Shotgun[edit]
Used in Martian Dreams, the shotgun's basic premise is to fire it at point-blank range at the enemy and then finishing it off by the bullet spray. This has the strange effect that it is a firearm that has next to no range, but its destructive power more than makes up for it. It should mostly be used in tight conditions, where an enemy can hardly attack from afar.
Stopping power: 3
Range: 1
Rifle[edit]
Used in the Savage Empire and Martian Dreams, this is a weapon that can cause death very quickly on a wide distance. Against enemies who can only attack in melee, this is an almost unfair advantage. However, while on Mars there is a steady supply of ammo available from the Trading Post, rifle ammo is very precious on Eodon, due to the limited stores available. Thus usage of rifles should be reduced to when the situation really demands it.

Martian Dreams

Belgian Combine[edit]
This weapon, used in Martian Dreams, is very much the same as the rifle, but with the additional bonus that it has two additional modes. It can be switched to a shotgun-mode, using the appropriate ammunition or be used in a combo-mode, firing off a rifle and shotgun shot at the same time. Of course, the shotgun shells do scatter at a distance, thus making this a somewhat dubious idea at best.
Stopping power: 4
Range: 5
Uses rifle ammo and shotgun ammo.
Elephant Gun[edit]
The most destructive rifle available in Martian Dreams, the elephant gun does even more damage than the rifle, but at the same maximum distance. This however does come with the price that it needs special ammunition, which it cannot share with normal rifles.
Stopping power: 5
Range: 5

Lore[edit]
“ | The Avatar, being the combat veteran in our group, always suggested the most effective weapons for us to wield, and often had to remind us to keep them ready as we journeyed across the deserts or through the mines. While the Avatar was a most efficient fighter when armed with the Belgian combine we had brought along, the rest of us found it easiest to use two pistol-type weapons. We struck our targets most often with these and to the greatest effect. (The few times someone other than the Avatar attempted a shotgun, he invariably hurt a friend. It was simply too difficult for the rest of us to gauge the range of the scattering pellets.) |
