The frost sword or ice sword is a variety of enchanted blades imbued with the magical properties of ice, which allows it to cut with searing coldness. Variants of this weapon appear in the SNES-port of Ultima VII and in Ultima IX.
Description[edit]
Frost swords existed during the last days of the Avatar in Ultima IX, and proved deadly weapons against many of the ravaging daemons and hellhounds that stalked the corrupted realm of Britannia throughout the period. In addition to dealing bitter damage to their victims (40-60 damage per strike), such blades had a substantial chance (20%) of causing those struck to freeze solidly to the ground upon which they stood, rendering them helpless in the face of a potential killing blow.[1] While their properties were highly advantageous over fire-based creatures, frost swords were ineffective against ice hounds. Like their elemental opposites, fire swords, the glow of these icy blades was such that they could provide sufficient illumination in lieu of other light sources.
Ice Sword[edit]
In the SNES-port of Ultima VII, an ice sword appears, which is ineffective against ice-aligned or elementally-invulnerable creatures, including cyclopes, headless, stone harpies and trolls.
