Lightning wand

A lightning wand is a magically charged rod which discharges bolts of electrical energy at its targets. It appears in Ultima VI, Ultima VII, Ultima Underworld II and Ultima VII Part Two.

Description[edit]

Lightning wands may be wielded by anyone, regardless of arcane abilities, which makes them an ideal weapons for those who wish to employ a magical means of defense but lack competency as spell-casters. Like the similarly enchanted fire wand, however, lightening wands have a limited number of viable charges, and will eventually drain themselves of their magical potency if used too frequently.

Lightning Rod[edit]

In the SNES-port of Ultima VII, an enchanted weapon known as the lightning rod exists, and may be found in the Pirate Cave. Similar to the classic Lightning Wand, the Lightning Rod discharges electrical energy at its users foes, but will affect multiple targets, striking as many creatures as are in range. It costs two units of mana to use.

Effectiveness of the Weapon[edit]

In Ultima VI does the lighting wand 30 points of damage.
In Ultima VII has the lightning wand an effectiveness of 8 and a hit may paralyze.
In Ultima VII Part Two the lightning wand does 8 points of damage and a hit may paralyze.

Lore[edit]

The effects of a bolt of lightning as it bursts forth from the wand is as devastating, as its counterpart, the fire wand. However, according to one of its proponents, "the corpses look and smell much less offensive."

Trivia[edit]

  • In Ultima VI, it is the intelligence of the user that determines accuracy and effectiveness of the wand. The smarter the character, the better both results are.
