Arrows are the ammunition for all kind of bows. They are available in Ultima V, Ultima VI, Ultima VII, Ultima VII Part Two, Ultima IX and Ultima Underworld II.
Description[edit]
These are the standard arrows that are sold by bowyers. They are not special in any way and don't deal any kind of extra damage, but will work with any normal bow and most magic bows. Thankfully, every adventurer with some magic skill can upgrade these to the superior magic arrows with the spell Enchant.
Buyable arrows – as well as the need to purchase separate ammunition for a variety of projectile weapons – first appeared in Ultima V.
Effectiveness of the Ammunition[edit]
- In Ultima V and Ultima VI, arrows only enable usage of a bow. The damage rating depends solely on the bow.
- In both of Ultima VII and Ultima VII Part Two arrows add +1 on the basic damage.
- In Ultima Underworld II arrows do an average 4.5 points of damage.
Variants[edit]
Several specialized kinds of arrows exist by the time of Ultima VII:
Several specialized kinds of arrows exist by the time of Ultima IX:
- Fire arrows, which cause 30 points of damage + fire additional damage.
- Mana arrows, which cause 45 points of damage, hitting the target's vulnerability, and require 10 mana to use.

Bows and crossbows are capable of firing with tremendous force, but they require the use of both hands and cannot be used effectively at point blank range.

The strategic effectiveness of well placed missile fire cannot be over-emphasized. On many occasions an outnumbered party has been able to repel an attack through the proper application of missile weaponry. The disadvantage of bows, crossbows and slings is that loading them requires the use of both hands. Bows and crossbows also require two hands to fire.

As far as I can see, many of these weapon types do overlap. Most swords can cut and pierce; a two-handed sword can bludgeon and cut; an arrow is a piercing missile weapon; and a slung rock is a bludgeoning projectile.
