Ultima VII cheat room
The Ultima VII cheat room is divided among two rooms, which contain verything a cheating Avatar might wish for.
Description[edit]
The use of these rooms is clear: to allow players to bypass conventional solutions to defeat the Guardian. The most common way to reach it is, to create makeshift stairs at the blacksmith shop in Trinsic with numerous crates and then, after reaching the roof, walking to the north side of the big chimney. An alternate teleporter is found next to a tree in eastern Britain, just to the east of the house of the gargoyles, on a higher z-level, so it needs something for the Avatar to step on. A third teleporter exists in Trinsic between The Honorable Hound and Apollonia’s house behind the trunk of the tree there on a higher z-level, so it needs something for the Avatar to step on. All three teleport locations are shown in the gallery below.
The first room after the teleport already has an impressive inventory to offer:
- Full sets of Magic armour for all eight party members plus accessories in form of magical rings. (16 rings of protection, 8 rings of regenerations, 8 rings of invisibility)
- Various magical weapons. (2 Death Scythes, a juggernaut hammer, a hawk (it's a weapon), 2 magic axes, a lightning whip and a Hoe of Destruction)
- A full spellbook and 100 of each reagent.
- Rudyom's wand and all three Prisms.
- 100 lockpicks and 1000 gold pieces.
Using the teleporter, the next room contains teleporters to all important places in the game and all cities. It also contains another array of plot-relevant items.
- The Hourglass of Nicodemus, already charged.
- A charged Ethereal Ring.
- The Soul Cage and liche potion.
- Several caddellite helmets.
To make it a bit easier, below follows a map of where to find which item and where the various teleportes in the cheat room lead to.
After the greed is finally satisfied, one of the teleporters is used to exit the cheat room.
Trivia[edit]
- For more cheats, see Cheating in Ultima VII.
- The cheat room does have an interesting history. During development Richard Garriott encouraged Easter eggs but wanted to know about them. One day a member of the QA team informed him that a tester found something and Richard needed to see it – it was the Trinsic cheat room of which Garriott was not aware. They then searched the egg that lead to the room and changed it to point at the famous Lord British anti-cheater room as a sting to expose the guilty party. This in the end outed John Watson as the culprit. They however kept the cheat room and added three new teleporter eggs (Trinsic chimney, Trinsic tree and the tree in east Britain).
