The bell tower of Monk Isle, is not an ordinary bell tower.
Description[edit]
By way of an apparent enchantment, the bell tower announces to the Xenkan Monks when their next task of the day is about to commence. The monks' scriptures predicted that all three bells upon the tower would ring at the same time to herald the impending return of Xenka, their founder and prophet. The bells can be manually tolled, however the monks are able to discern the difference from their natural chiming. In Ultima VII Part Two, the three bells rang when Xenka returned to aid the Avatar in the quest against the Guardian.
Lore[edit]
“ | Life on Monk Isle is uncomplicated. The bells in the tower govern the day. They toll when it is time to awaken, when it is time for meditation at the monastery when it is time to till the fields and when it is time to retire. This tranquil life is one that I easily grew accustomed to in my young days. – from Balancing the Scales (Ultima VII Part Two)
