The Royal Theatre

The Royal Theatre in Britain is one of many cultural institutions in the capital city, although it was only present within it for a brief span during the early Age of Armageddon in Ultima VII.

Description[edit]

Founded a year prior to the Avatar's return, the Royal Theatre was sponsored largely by wealthy Fellowship members, and continued to operate through the support of patrons. During the time of the hero's adventures regarding the black gate, most of the theatre's operations were overseen by its playwright-in-residence, Raymundo, who was in the midst of directing the first production of his epic historical play, The Trials of the Avatar.[1]

The Avatar was able to speak to the various actors in the midst of their rehearsals, and could even audition as an understudy for the title role.[2]

Lore[edit]

This is the opulent and majestic capital of Britannia, famed city of Compassion, and it is where thou mayest find the Castle of Lord British. Britain is built on the shore of Britanny Bay. It is easily the largest city in all of Britannia and it has seen much new development. It is the home of the historic Wayfarer's Inn, Royal Theatre and the Music Hall.
My husband directs at the Royal Theatre. Currently, he is producing his own work, The Trials of the Avatar. Surely thy friend will wish to see that. The costumes are fantastic! Naturally so, for Raymundo himself designed them. The dear man cannot sew a whit, though, and Gaye charged him 30 gold just to make the Avatar's costume!

Trivia[edit]

  • The Avatar's failure to gain a role as the Avatar on stage may be seen as similar to numerous anecdotal situations in which famous actors are not recognized as themselves when encountered in public – something that famously happened to actor Charlie Chaplin when he entered and lost a Charlie Chaplin look-a-like contest in San Francisco.
