Sigil of Binding
The Sigil of Binding is a pentagram located in the Ethereal Void, used to trap powerful beings, like an air djinn. It appears in Ultima Underworld II.
Description[edit]
Being located in the Void, the sigil is difficult to reach. One has to get to the pyramid in the colored realms, where a white gate transports to it. The Avatar learned about the sigil from the mage Zoranthus, as this was the only place where the djinn bottle housing the air djinn could be safely transferred to a different vessel.
The Avatar would eventually assume the spirit housed in such a bottle by performing the ritual Zoranthus taught. This required bathing in a mixture of filanium-rich mud and basilisk oil and to be subjected to temperatures hot enough to fire the mud upon the hero's skin. Then by imbibing a potion of Iron Flesh as protection from the airy daemon and breaking the bottle provided by the sage on the Sigil of Binding, the djinn was forced to inhabit the Avatar's form.[1]
Trivia[edit]
- If the player doesn't want to go through a colored realm again to get to the sigil, then simply walking through white moongates until reaching the pyramid for the gate to the sigil does the trick as well.
- The sigil can produce a bug. If the bottle is near the edge when breaking it, it seems to have worked, but actually doesn't. Should that happen, a replacement bottle is needed.
