Great daggers are small blades imbued with transmutative properties that appear in Ultima VII.
Description[edit]
While largely similar to standard daggers in outward appearance, great daggers are distinguished by a crimson stone adorning the hilt and are enchanted such that they metamorphose into a two-handed sword when wielded in battle. Although far short of rivaling the actual blades they purport to become, their enchantment nevertheless affords a deadlier strike and lighter weight than that of ordinary daggers.
Great daggers could be found in Britannia throughout the early Age of Armageddon and numbered among the many curiosities recorded by the sage Alagner, but had fallen into obscurity by the time of the Avatar's final return to the realm in Ultima IX.
Effectiveness of the Weapon[edit]
- Great daggers inflict 5 points of damage, less than a one-handed sword's effectiveness rating of 6, and half of what a genuine two-handed sword would do with an effectiveness rating of 11.

A great idea but shy of a wonder. This dagger is perhaps one of the most ingeniously economical items ever produced. It appears to be naught more than an ordinary dagger, save for large, red stone for a pommel. However, when one strikes with it, it is magically transormed [sic] into a two-handed sword. It hides well, and is light on the belt, but no more dangerous that an ordinary two-handed sword (which, of course, is in no way feeble).
