A fishing rod is a tool primarily used to catch fish, consisting of a pole with an attached line that terminates in a hook. Fishing rods appear in Ultima VI, Ultima VII, Ultima VII Part Two and Ultima VIII, as well as in Ultima Underworld, Ultima Underworld II and Savage Empire.
Description[edit]
Fishing rods are simple to manufacture and can generally provide a reliable food supply for a single fisherman. In times of need, they can even function as makeshift weapons, although they are markedly inferior to instruments designed for combat. Usage is simple; either throw the hook into the water and wait for a fish to be caught, or aim the hook at a visible fish.
Effectiveness as a Weapon[edit]
- In Ultima VII and Ultima VII Part Two, when used as a weapon, a fishing rod has a damage of 1 and a reach of 3.[1]
- Fishing rods are not usable as weapons in Ultima VI, Ultima VIII, Savage Empire or in Ultima Underworld and Ultima Underworld II.
Trivia[edit]
- In Ultima VI, Papa Cyclops will give the Avatar a fishing rod, if not possessing one, that the hero might catch some fish on his behalf.[2]
- In Ultima Underworld and Ultima Underworld II, a fishing rod may be manufactured by combining a pole with some thread. This allows for a steady food supply.
