Alagner's storehouse is a structure that sits on the northern part of the island of New Magincia in Ultima VII.

Description[edit]

Fearful that his enemies would uncover his research regarding them, the sage Alagner kept many of his intellectual writings and notebooks in a carefully secured storeroom, whose inner sanctum was defended by a battery of illusions, magical fields and puzzles. In addition to this, the room which contained the sage's personal notebook was kept in an elevated room without stairs, forcing those wishing access to construct a makeshift ladder or staircase.

Since the storehouse is a confusing maze of switches, teleporters and fake walls, following is a step-by-step solution to the problem.


  1. Open the storeroom's doors and enter the one in the west. Stand on the blue carpet - this will teleport you to the vicinity of the eastern door, behind an otherwise impassable invisible wall.
  2. Unlock the door in front of you and enter the next room to the west.
  3. Flip the switch to the upper left, which is partially hidden by the barell.
  4. Pick the lock of the door in the hallway further to the west.
  5. Enter the room and flip the switch to the south. (There is a magic bow in an adject room, which you can take, if you wish, by flipping the other switch.)
  6. Step onto the teleporter of the newly opened room to the north. This will teleport you to the left side of the storeroom.
  7. Walk near the door to the north. This will teleport you to the right side of the storeroom.
  8. Walk around the broken wall and step on the teleporter to the right. This will teleport you to the left side of the room, flip the switch found there to open the final sliding door.
  9. Take one of the two teleporters found there to get back to the central teleporter and this time walk around it. Walk north through an illusionary wall and the now open sliding door into the main room.
  10. Take the chairs away from the table and put down a crate to form a step that you might walk on the table. Once there, create a staircase of crates to get to the elevated room, which you unlock and then find the notebook in[1]


Trivia[edit]

  • The Storehouse was the first time, a stacking puzzle is used in order to reach a higher elevation - something Ultima VII Part Two would do more often. The only other instance when the Avatar has to stack things in this game happens when wanting to enter the cheat room in Trinsic.
  • In case building the staircase proves difficult, it is feasable to move some of the crates from the other rooms to get more building material.
