Bordermarch in Ultima V |
Bordermarch was once known as a refuge from the dictatorship of Lord Blackthorn.
Description[edit]
Erected on a rocky island west of the mainland, it was used by Sir Simon and Lady Tessa as a place to rally against the Oppression. At the time of Ultima V, the Avatar came to Bordermarch to learn from Sir Simon and Lady Tessa about the crown jewels and their importance. While there the hero also gathered the companions Dupre and Sentri, who had fled there, too.
Shortly after Lord British's return, the inhabitants had to flee, as the collapse of the Underworld caused the entire island to sink beneath the waves.
Lore[edit]
“ | Bordermarch is the fortified retreat of the respected Britannian governors Sir Simon and Lady Tessa. Forced to flee the tyranny of Blackthorn's kingdom because of their steadfast opposition to his rule, the knight and his Lady made their home on a lonely, mountainous island north of Jhelom. Their personal armourer may be willing to sell some of his prime wares to friends, and 'tis rumoured that several of the Avatar's oldest friends abide her against the day when they make take up arms for the Crown once more. |

Bordermarch in Lazarus[edit]
This is an Ultima V: Lazarus-related article or section. The information within may not apply to Ultima V or other Ultima games.
In Ultima V: Lazarus, the Oppression will start an attack on Bordermarch while the Avatar is present, and it is up to the hero to stop the attackers. Also, there is an alternative route to Bordermarch beside using the grapple to climb the mountain.
Trivia[edit]
- There is a barony within the Society for Creative Anachronism known as Bordermarch, which was founded by a Sir Simon of the Amber Isle and a Lady Tessa of the Gardens. This fief is in the greater kingdom of Ansteorra – where Richard Garriott has been known to participate in the persona of Shamino Sallé Dacil in the barony of Bryn Gwlad. It is probable that the Ultima Bordermarch was based on this barony.[1]
