The Temple of Emotion |
The Temple of Emotion, belonging to Chaos is one of the six temples sacred to the forces that form Order, Chaos and Balance. It appears in Ultima VII Part Two.
Description[edit]
Situated near Skullcrusher on the Serpent Isle, the Temple of Emotion has to be prepared properly before anyone is allowed to drink from the Water of Emotion. There exist four lodestones that have to be put onto four pedestals before the water in the temple is changed into the water of Emotion. The Temple also contains the Moon's Eye, an artifact that allows scrying over large distances - especially towards the perversion of Emotion: Insanity.
History[edit]
The Temple of Emotion was attacked by Order forces very early in the war due to its proximity to Skullcrusher. Led by the Master of Ethicality, they killed all defenders and inhabitants, causing the spirit of the girl Shriash being trapped inside a wall due to the magic thrown around. In the counter-attack, the forces of Chaos killed all Order forces to the last man. The temple then fell into disuse.
Many years later the Avatar traveled to the temple after being told by Thoxa to use the Moon's Eye while meeting her in a replica of the temple in her dreams after falling asleep in Gorlab Swamp. That allowed the Avatar to first see Batlin preparing to open the Wall of Lights and later learn the whereabouts of the Insanity Bane. Later they had to get the water to create a fitting Soul Prisms for the Insanity Bane. After freeing the spirit of Shriash, the Avatar placed the four lodestones on the pedestals around the pond to turn the normal water into that of Emotion.
