Binthus is the cook of Bordermarch in Ultima V: Lazarus.

Originally hailing from Trinsic, this small, unassuming man, fled to Bordermarch with Sir Simon when the town fell to the Oppression. Feeling himself no great hero, he thought it better to hide on Bordermarch than to remain on the mainland and actively defy Balackthorn's Ethics.[1]

Binthus told the hero he had many mouths to feed, including his own. The cook sardonically told the hero that the ancient ruins of Bordermarch were drafty and cold, so it was fortunate he had to spend all day slaving over a hot stove, which kept the temperatures comfortable. Binthus told the hero that when Resistance food supplies finally did arrive, much of the rations were spoiled, and the extra effort of placing the kitchen on the floor above the dining room made his chores even more difficult, constantly running up and down the stairs. He did have a small supply of herbs which grew on the barren island, and the fisherman Norcen sometimes supplied him with fresh fish for meals.

Binthus did speak a bit about the other members of the island, commenting Dupre preferred humble pie, but there were only goats available on the island, which Binthus deemed unacceptable. The desperate cook felt Steve's skills at the forge might be better put towards making cooking utensils than weapons, so that he might better serve Bordermarch's inhabitants. He spoke highly of Lady Tessa's magical prowess, saying she could conjure foods far grander than he could cook on his desolate island.
