Anju Sermani is a spell that restores a being to life whose body had been burnt to ashes by an improperly-cast Surmandum spell.
Spell Description[edit]
Unlike normal resurrections, burnt bodies lose their connection to the soul, which is instantly reborn and thus difficult to recall. This spell is needed for the complicated reversal of this process, and for the restoration of the destroyed body; the Surmandum spell is not capable of this. The quote of the The Ancient Liturgy of Truth shows the danger of this spell.
The price is clear: another being had to die, since that new life was robbed of the soul as it returned to the restored body. By Ultima VI, the Avatar is specifically told in Serpent's Hold that burnt bodies cannot be returned to life.

The Ultima 6 Project[edit]

In The Ultima 6 Project, the spell re-surfaces. After first hearing about it from Caradon at Serpent's Hold, the Avatar received the quest to secure the one remaining spell scroll and bring it to the healer Dargoth at the Lycaeum after learning of the Seers of the Moonstone. The Avatar found it in the library of the evil mage Lorcan on Marsor's Isle and brought it to Dargoth so that this forbidden spell would be kept out of the wrong hands.
Alternatively, it is possible to use it to create zombies from the fallen.

- Being restored from ashes reduces the Wisdom of the restored character by 5 points.
