Trainers for Skills[edit]

Lore[edit]

The merchant class of Sosaria is the mainstay of the Realm's economy. All manner of trade goods -- foodstuffs and the handiwork local artisans -- can be found in the towne and castle shoppes. An adequate supply of gold will help to equip the adventurer with everything from rations to the most esoteric of weapons.
There is a thriving merchant class in Britannia. Each town and village has its own shops that specialize in local wares and services. The seasoned traveler will discover many delightful and useful items to purchase, as well as a wide variety of places to eat and sleep. The monetary system of Britannia is based on Lord British’s heraldic charge. It is a gold coin with a silver serpent cast vermeil upon the gold. The process is so difficult that the coin has never been successfully counterfeited or debased in value. This coin has been the foundation of the realm's stability and is universally accepted by merchants. Coins of the realm are also to be found in the chests that appear from time to time and are found below the surface in the dank dungeons. Beware, as most chests have diabolical traps in place to confound thieves.
A complex system of interdependency among many professions and crafts drives all commercial activity in Britannia. This interdependency ensures that Britannia remain a growing nation, well supplied and prepared against times of shortage and hardship.

Britannia is not only a kingdom of great cities, but also of prolific commerce and industrial might. In any city, thou canst find a pleasing variety of goods and services available for purchase. Each city has an economy based upon its industry and the endeavors of the people who work within it. The goods each city produces are bartered or sold to the people of other cities, which provides them access to other goods not usually available in their own city. Through this continuous flurry of commercial activity all the townships of Britannia are supplied with the products and services that they need to survive and thrive.
Although I have procrastinated much in preparing this section, hoping to record further development, it seems that our commerce system evolved and stabilized quickly. Our resources show no sign of depletion lo these two centuries. I had hoped to abandon the ridiculous trappings of coinage that were common in Sosaria, but so many others found barter cumbersome. Therefore, I must resign myself to accepting a currency-based system. Regardless, let me now discuss the practitioners of this form of exchange.
Those who cannot or will not craft for themselves use these obsidian chips throughout the city as legitimate exchange for goods and services. Since there are not many merchants in town, I have taken the liberty of compiling a list of the few types of goods offered to the general public. Fresh fish and vegetables can be purchased at the tavern. The weaver produces fine apparel that is both functional and comfortable. Exquisite jewelry can be purchased from the jeweler, who also produces some glassware. Quality refreshment is available at the tavern, where herdsmen bring torax chops and kith fillets. Finally, several of the craftsmen about town are likely to sell tools of their various trades.
