Confusion Blast is a Thaumaturgy spell that pacifies enemies.
Spell Description[edit]
Confusion Blast causes the foe lose all aggression and just wander aimlessly around. This gives the caster the opportunity to vacate the area without further hassle, avoiding any kind of hostilities entirely. The spell is especially useful against enemies like the brutish trolls, who have only low intelligence.
Lore[edit]
“ | This causes a release of etheric energies, inflicting no real physical damage, but causing all combatants near the Thaumaturge to forget completely the present combat. – from The Chronicle of Pagan (Ultima VIII)

“ | With these words the caster releases a wave of etheric emanations that cause all opponents to forget not only the current combat in which they are involved, but also any hostile dispositions towards the caster. The necessary components are the spellbook and the following reagents: Eye of Newt, Bat Wing, Serpent Scale, Obsidian, and Brimstone. – from Spellbooks of Thaumaturgy (Ultima VIII)

Trivia[edit]
- This spell becomes available after enabling Devon to become the Tempest.
- Its spellbook needs to be recharged after each usage, making it strangely poor and useless when tallied against the rest of Thaumaturgy spells which are actually unlimited after their corresponding spellbook has been charged. Though it's true that nor "The Chronicle of Pagan" nor "Pentology" are clear on whether Thaumaturgy spellboks are discharged after each usage it becomes clear that at least one of these behaviours is a bug.
