School: Thaumaturgy
Incantation: Ort Grav Por
Reagents: 5 pieces of blackrock
Mana cost: 3

The Ethereal Travel thaumaturgical spell allows the caster to travel to the Ethereal Void.

Spell Description[edit]

Where exactly into the void the caster teleports to however, is not determined and can be influenced by outside forces. Also, the requirements for this spell are quite steep, as blackrock is a substance very difficult to find on Pagan, since it is extraordinary rare. Note also, that unlike other spells, the reagents are not consumed when charging the spellbook, so the rare substance is not lost to the caster. Generally, casting it on Pagan leads to the Ethereal Plane, the home of all four Titans.

Lore[edit]

Ort Grav Por

Invoking this powerful ritual permits the caster to traverse the interdimensional realm known as the Ether. A mage’s first few castings of this spell will prove awkward, for inexperienced mages will have difficulty determining their destination. With time, however, the mage will be able to dictate an arrival point and appear there. Note that this spell should not be confused with a spell of teleportation, for the former permits travel only between dimensions, while the latter permits travel only within a dimension.
The necessary components for this spell are hard to specify, for they seem to change depending on both the casting location and the destination. Usually the components include material native to one or both of the dimensions.
There are two ways to use these components. In general, setting five pieces of the material -- no piece smaller than a man’s head -- on the ground in the form of a pentacle and concentrating on one of the chunks, all while speaking the words of power, should permit the dimensional gate to transport the caster.
However, should the caster possess a tome that is already imbued with the power, such as this one, then it is only necessary to carry the five pieces on one’s person. Rather than array the pieces in a pattern, the caster simply needs to invoke the power of the tome.
Note: I suspect the material of the initial gate created in the ancient temple of the first Pagans would suffice while in this dimension, though the location of any of the fragments as well as the destination is a mystery to me.

Mythran

Trivia[edit]

  • The spell can only be bought after reading the book about the Tongue of Flames from Malchir and the book Mythran summons after speaking to him about it, then telling him to recreate the obelisk. That also blocks purchase of all other Thaumaturgy spells.
  • It is not necessary to actually buy the spell from Mythran. An alternate way to cast this spell is to find a pentagram, as it is used for binding spells in Sorcery, and place the blackrock objects at the five points where reagents are usually placed, as seen in the picture in the gallery. Then double-click on the obelisk tip to teleport to the Ethereal Void. If some of the fragments disappear, they were placed correctly, and automatically returned to the backpack. Those that remain were placed incorrectly.
