Cheating in Savage Empire
Savage Empire does contain internal cheat options, but they are normally de-activated. However, diligent Avatars can circumvent that problem easily.
The Alt-Cheat-Codes[edit]
The programmers worked really hard to remove any kind of cheating from the game and even went so far to de-activate all the developers commands. However, with the little program MDHack the commands can be re-activated. Just use the program under DOSBox and specify the Savage Empire directory.
Warning: Do this directly after installing the game or wiping the previous save, since with a game already in progress, it can lead to odd effects.
With that done, the following options are available by typing [Alt] + (Number on Keypad). More codes do exist, but they are irrelevant to cheating. Pleae also note that all numbers are in hexadecimal.
Divination[edit]
[Alt]+213 gives an instant overview of the area, as if using the spell Eagle Eye. It also gives the current time of the day and the coordinates of the party (x/y/z).
Teleport to Area[edit]
[Alt]+214 opens a prompt for entering the new x/y/z-coordinates in hexadecimal. The z-number goes to the underground maps, if higher than 0. A list of possible locations follows:

Adavance Time[edit]
[Alt]+215 advances game time by one hour, thus negating the need for waiting around.
Ether Mode[edit]
[Alt]+222 toggled the solidity mode of the Avatar and party on or off. When on, they are ethereal and can walk through all kind of obstacles like trees, doors and even walls without any kind of problem.
Teleport to NPC[edit]
[Alt]+224 opens a prompt for entering the value for a specific NPC. The party is then teleported to the NPC in question. The numbers are found in the following list.

View Portraits[edit]
[Alt]+232 uses the same NPC-values as the teleport and shows the portrait of the character in question.
Edit NPC Flags[edit]
[Alt]+242 is the NPC editing tool, which can manipulate the flags of the NPC in question after entering their nummeric value (see above). All NPCs have different flags, thus it is impossible to gave an overview how these can be altered.
Item Creation[edit]
- Main article: Savage Empire Create Item List
Item creation is handled differently (though MDHack is still needed). For that, one needs to talk to Triolo and then type in "cheat", which opens the item creation screen. Triolo then asks for the value of the item in question and the quantity in which the item in question is to be created. The complete list is found in the fitting article.
Other Cheats[edit]
Getting to the Urali Tribe the Easy Way[edit]
Now, when normally getting to the village of the Urali Tribe you are supposed to use turtles with the trutle food from Topuru to bypass the Tyrannosaurus. However, if you do the test of the Disquiqui Tribe to bell their Tyrannosaurus first, you should have an extra jar of plachta (since Chafblum gave you two) and you can simply send the beast to sleep with a treated spear and walk by without trouble. It's cheating, because you are not supposed to know about uniting the tribes until after freeing Aiela from Darden.
Reaching Aiela Easier[edit]
Now, normally when resuing Aiela, you are supposed to go a very long way at the shores of a lake due to one stepping stone askew. However, if you have turtle food left (see above exploit to have more of it), just calling a turtle to get you to the other side of the shore next to the cave entrance sure is a lot faster.
Entering Kotl Early[edit]
It is possible to enter Kotl early, without rescuing Aiela and getting the Kotl Gem, thanks to a bug. Using the Crystal Brain on the socket also opens the entrance to Kotl, though the brain will be lost in the process. Note that this cheat has little practical value in the game, since to unite the tribes, Aiela still has to be rescued, and Kotl is too dangerous for low-level parties.
