Seggallion is the name given to several characters found in different Ultima games. The connection between these characters is not clear. Even though they share the same name and physical appearance, they do not seem to recall previous encounters with the Avatar.
History[edit]
Lord Seggallion (Ultima V)[edit]
In Ultima V, Lord Seggallion was a retired pirate who had successfully amassed a considerable amount of wealth. After retiring, he erected the fortress Farthing, on an island south of Jhelom, where he liked to study the skies. In Ultima V[1], the Avatar received a spyglass from him. Farthing later sank into the waves, however, after the collapse of the Underworld.
Seggallion (Ultima VI)[edit]
Seggallion was a knight who came from the parallel world known as Ashtalarea. While in his world, he was attacked by a beast while exploring the mountains of Tyme, and accidentally stepped through a blue moongate that transported him to Britannia. Despite slaying the beast, the mysterious moongate vanished, leaving Seggallion stranded in this new world. After this, he had wandered into Serpent’s Hold, where the honorable citizens had fed and clothed him, despite having no Britannian gold.[2]
The Avatar found him in Serpent’s Hold in Ultima VI. Seggallion was eager for some adventure by that time, and gladly joined the hero on the quest of the False Prophet.
Seggallion (Savage Empire)[edit]
Seggallion is a character found in the land of Eodon in Savage Empire, where he was on an archaeological dig. He was preoccupied with locating some diamonds, and when pressed, seemed quite paranoid about anyone else finding them first. Seggallion would also respond to the names of many of the designers for Savage Empire as well as previous Origin titles including Bad Blood and Knights of Legend.[3]
Jack Segal (Martian Dreams)[edit]
Seggallion makes another appearance, of sorts, in Martian Dreams, as the character Jack Segal.
Ultima V: Lazarus[edit]
This is an Ultima V: Lazarus-related article or section. The information within may not apply to Ultima V or other Ultima games.
In Ultima V: Lazarus, Lord Seggallion was originally a pirate from Buccaneer's Den, and sailed in the Ashtalarea's Breath. Seggallion had tried to defend Buccaneer's Den when Blackthorn attacked upon becoming Regent, but he was defeated and captured. Blackthorn offered him riches and a fortress, Farthing, should he choose to help the Oppression, a betrayal which Seggallion reluctantly agreed to.[4]
The cutthroat pirate had once attacked a ship from Moonglow, killing the crew, but sparing a girl named Temme whose brother had been killed in the attack. Seggallion later tracked the now accomplished mage Temme from afar, happy to see her thrive, and invited the magician to settle at Farthing, not revealing his true identity. She agreed, and brought her apprentice Dufus along. The Avatar could choose to tell Temme about Seggallion's past, which would cause her to leave Farthing, and would turn Seggallion against the Avatar.[5]
The Avatar could also choose to help Lord Dalgrin in sending messages to his emissary Jaron, who would relay to his master that Seggallion was unwilling to leave the Oppression’s thumb and side with the Resistance. The refusal would eventually lead to Seggallion and everyone on Farthing being killed by Dalgrin's men.[6][7]
The Avatar could speak to Seggallion about his spyglass after learning about it from Dufus.[8] Segallion admitted he had little need for such a device now that he was land-bound, and was willing to part with it if the Avatar knew that the eight planets of the Britannian planetary system represented the Eight Virtues, information that could be gleaned from Zachariah at the Observatory in Moonglow.[9]
If told of Lyndon’s plan to take Temme to Windemere to serve Elistaria,[10][11] Seggallion would evict the Oppression Inquisitor from the island, and give the Avatar the key his treasury room.
Seggallion will pay the Avatar 1000gp to absolve his debt with Danfits of Paws.[12]
In the remake, Seggallion explicitly stated that he was from another world known as Ashtalarea, linking him with the Seggallion found in Ultima VI.
The Ultima 6 Project[edit]
This is an Ultima 6 Project-related article or section. The information within may not apply to Ultima VI or other Ultima games.
In The Ultima 6 Project, upon arriving at the spot where Farthing used to be, Seggallion speaks up, saying that he used to live here and wanted to find a way back home to his world, Ashtalarea – thereby linking him to the character found in Ultima V.
Lore[edit]

Trivia[edit]
- Seggallion appears in Origin’s 1989 RPG, Knights of Legend, set in the world of Ashtalarea, where he is a knight imprisoned by the game's antagonist, Pildar. This appearance would go on to inspire the character's presence in Ultima VI.
- Though it is likely just coincidence, Seggallion as seen in Savage Empire resembles Tom Selleck, best known from the TV series Magnum, P.I..
- "Seggallion" appears on the training simulation high scores in the first Wing Commander[13], another Origin game.
