Jaron is a pirate in Farthing in Ultima V: Lazarus.
Jaron would at first claim to be a simple traveler, suggesting he merely ended up where the world took him. The pirate at first attempted to redirect the hero's questioning about his occupation, but would eventually reveal that he was a Captain of Buccaneer's Den, in direct employ of Lord Dalgrin, a man he found a good employer and a terrible enemy.[1]
The pirate told the hero that Lord Dalgrin had sent him to Farthing to convince Seggallion to leave the cause of the Oppression, and to once again oppose their ways. Jaron himself had little love towards the Oppression, feeling they had no rights to the ships of state and had usurped power from the rightful lord, Lord British. He especially held the inquisitor Lyndon, who watched his actions closely, in low regards, feeling he needed to be careful when talking to Seggallion or else risk imprisonment. Seggallion himself only gave vague replies when asked to leave the Oppression, and when given Lord Dalgrin's code "Is there gold in the dead man's chest?"[2], Jaron could merely sigh that there was yet none.
Asked about his scar, Jaron noted that in some environs such a question to an ill-tempered man could result in a sword to the neck, but he was not such a man and Farthing was not such a place. He merely told the hero that his disfigurement came about from being waylaid by ruffians, and that a good sword might protect a man from many troubles.
After relaying Jaron's message back to Lord Dalgrin, the pirate king would send a second coded message back to the pirate on Farthing, directing him to kill all inhabitant of the island.
