Cheating in Martian Dreams
Martian Dreams does contain internal cheat options, but they are normally de-activated. However, diligent Avatars can circumvent that problem easily.
The Alt-Cheat-Codes[edit]
The programmers worked really hard to remove any kind of cheating from the game and even went so far to de-activate all the developers commands. However, with the little program MDHack the commands can be re-activated. Just use the program under DOSBox and specify the Martian Dreams directory.
Warning: Do this directly after installing the game or wiping the previous save, since with a game already in progress, it can lead to odd effects.
With that done, the following options are available by typing [Alt] + (Number on Keypad). More codes do exist, but they are irrelevant to cheating. Pleae also note that all numbers are in hexadecimal.
Divination[edit]
[Alt]+213 gives an instant overview of the area. It also gives the current time of the day and the coordinates of the party (x/y/z).
Teleport to Area[edit]
[Alt]+214 opens a prompt for entering the new x/y/z-coordinates in hexadecimal. The z-number goes to the underground maps, if higher than 0. A list of possible locations follows:

Adavance Time[edit]
[Alt]+215 advances game time by one hour, thus negating the need for waiting around.
Ether Mode[edit]
[Alt]+222 toggled the solidity mode of the Avatar and party on or off. When on, they are ethereal and can walk through all kind of obstacles like trees, doors and even walls without any kind of problem.
Teleport to NPC[edit]
[Alt]+223 opens a prompt for entering the value for a specific NPC. The party is then teleported to the NPC in question. The numbers are found in the following list.

View Portraits[edit]
[Alt]+232 uses the same NPC-values as the teleport and shows the portrait of the character in question.
Edit NPC Flags[edit]
[Alt]+242 is the NPC editing tool, which can manipulate the flags of the NPC in question after entering their nummeric value (see above). All NPCs have different flags, thus it is impossible to gave an overview how these can be altered.
Party Heal[edit]
[Alt]+251 does heal the entire party of injury and/or poisonings of whatever kind.
Item Creation[edit]
- Main article: Martian Dreams Create Item List
[Alt]+250 is the item creation option. After typing the command, the program then asks for the value of the item in question in hexadecimal and the quantity in which the item in question is to be created. The complete list is found in the fitting article.
Other Cheats[edit]
Ruby Slippers[edit]
Near the glaciers directly south of Hellas (there is a small piece of glacier north of the place) at the coordinates 57°S 49°E, a pair of ruby slippers can be found underneath a rock - which has to be moved - when digging the disturbed earth there with a shovel. The rock formation in question is seen on the right, with the rock already moved and the slippers being dug out. You can use these slippers to solve the problem instantly and watch the ending sequence.
However, if you chicken out and instead say "no", you instead are shown a Kansas wheat field.
Lenin Shortcut[edit]
Instead of the tedious sorting of the Rubles into equal stacks for Lenin in the dream realm, it is far easier to simply collect them, and then burn them in the flame of a nearby candle. The programmers actually anticipated this, since Lenin will congratulate you to this unusual solution.
