Ultima VII Nitpickers Delight Patch is a fan-made patch created by Sir John (Serendipitous Dragon of the Ultima Dragons) that seeks to address a number of technical errors and purported inconsistencies in the character dialogues and books of Ultima VII. The patch is available at Sir John's website, Die Heimstatt des Sir John. The most recent version is 1.0.

Installation[edit]

An original version of Ultima VII is needed for the patch. Installation requires only that the patch files be copied into the game directory; the patched game can then be played as normal in DOSBox or over Exult. Alternatively, a CMD-installer is also available.

Features[edit]

Content Alterations[edit]

The patch implements the following alterations:

  • Gwenno’s note does not read anymore that she is already gone to Serpent Isle on her own. Compliant to the introduction sequence it now reads, she is looking for a way to get there.
  • Neno no longer mistakes his trio for a quartet.
  • Gordon no longer sells Fish & Chips from his (non-existing) wagon, but from a stall.
  • Likewise Sam no longer pretends to sell from a (non-existing) wagon.
  • All people, notes and deeds now know or reflect, that horse & carriage are a wagon drawn by two horses, not one.
  • Gorn no longer misspells his master's name "Brohm".
  • Markham is a ghost now, not a zombie anymore, and he also knows now that the graveyard is to the west and no longer misdirects you.
  • Cubolt now knows where Moonglow is: to the northeast of New Magincia.
  • Jillian now knows the name of Verity Isle and the correct location of Moonglow.
  • Addom now remembers more accurately, where he found the crystal.
  • Syria, the fighter from the south is now Syria, fighter from the east. When the Avatar talks to Syria, they are in Jhelom. As Syria has come to Jhelom from somewhere else and there is no island south or west from Jhelom, she must be from the east instead.
  • Brion no longer sends you "upstairs" for the telescope but instead behind the house.
  • Penumbra’s "plaques" are but one "plaque", and she more accurately speaks of a dungeon "on one of these islands".
  • Dungeon Despise is now correctly Dungeon Shame again.
  • Danag now knows the names of Dungeon Hythloth and Buccaneer's Cave, as does Sintag.
  • Julia now remembers she had been working as tinker before.
  • Old Draxinusom, who has been known since Ultima VI, talks about the set of virtues he grew up with: the Shrines of Principle and virtues of Passion, Diligence and Control. Not only about the more recent "ways of the altars".
  • No one ever met the "creator" of the flying carpet, since Mr. Loubet acquired it and used it to transport to Britannia in Ultima V. Hence, it must have been him or another "owner", who believed it to be a failure, not the original and unknown "creator". Alagner’s book was updated accordingly.
  • Astelleron's logbook needed to be reworked since the text was not aligned with the remaining canonical storyline.
  • Garok Al-Mat no longer invites to his mountain home to gather reagents at reduced prices as he never goes there after his leaving the dungeon.

Bug Fixes[edit]

Additionally, some bugs of the game got fixed:

  • Tseramed’s “Avatar” bug got fixed, so that his dialogue no longer loops in that instance.
  • Rankin’s “liqueur” bug got fixed, so that using the cube on him is now possible
  • A Usecode-sniplet (misspelled gender call) is not displayed anymore, when wasting a potion.
  • Fishing was made possible, as fishes no longer have a size of 0 – fixed by Natreg Dragon.
  • The Iskander quest is now solvable – fixed by Natreg Dragon.

Other Additions[edit]

These are additions that don't alter content or fix bugs:

  • Tremor fix by ripsaw8080.
  • General MIDi patch by Newton Dragon (optional)
  • An extra portrait by Idspi Dragon.
  • UltimaHacks by Eureka Dragon.
