Iskander is a cyclopean hero traveling near the Dungeon Deceit during Ultima VII.

Description[edit]

The eleventh son of Valador, Iskander of clan Ironheart had long been considered a hero amongst his people despite his relatively young age of two centuries and six years. One-hundred and eighty-nine years prior to the affair of the Black Gate, Iskander had slain seven gazer princes who had used their magic to steal the Ironheart chieftain's eye, seeking to devour it. Owing to this exploit, and numerous other deeds, Iskander had long been lauded in cyclopean society, and had (to his embarrassment) earned the nickname "Wonder Boy" among his kin.[1]

Already weary of his life of adventures, Iskander was seeking out a new homeland for his people, hoping that they might settle in a peaceful region where they could live as farmers and artisans. In the course of his quest, the cyclops came upon the mysterious Tetrahedron Generator within Deceit, and was greatly puzzled by the effects of its defensive mechanism, which left him overcome with amnesia whenever he approached it, hindering his explorations.[2]

At some point in his wanderings, he was assailed by the mage Kalideth, who had sought to find the cause of the source of the ethereal distortions which had rendered him mad, and had mistakenly come to believe that the cyclopes were responsible, not knowing that the magical pollution actually emanated from the nearby generator. Eventually forced to slay the magician in self-defense, Iskander earned himself the ire of Kalideth's two daughters, Amanda and Eiko, who undertook a quest of vengeance against the cyclops on their father's behalf.[3]

Should the Avatar speak with Iskander regarding the two women who hunted him, the cyclops would reveal the truth of their father's death, yet appeared stoically reserved as to his impending confrontation with the two warriors, refusing to flee, and seemingly unfazed by the prospect of his own death. Should the Avatar deliver news to Eiko and Amanda of Iskander's account, however, the sisters could be persuaded to abandon their quest.[4][5]

Once the Avatar destroyed the tetrahedron and cleansed the ether, Iskander would offer his thanks, once again able to continue his journey.[6]

Lore[edit]

I visited Deceit while looking for a legendary, civilized Cyclops named Iskander. I did not find him, but I must admit my search was cut short by multiple retreats out of the dungeon.
