Thorne is a fighter of Jhelom during the time of Ultima V.
Description[edit]
When the Avatar met him, Thorne was very eager to exchange battle stories, telling the one where a gang of trolls had had the gall to try to rob him, and he had made them sorry. Thorne openly admitted that the Avatar should ask Trian about a Word of Power. When asked about the mantra of Courage, Thorne asked the Avatar whom the hero serves. Declaring Lord British to be the true king convinced Thorne to reveal the mantra “RA” to the Avatar. Thorne also had some things to say about the secret passages in dungeons, and how to activate them.[1]

A self-employed adventurer, mercenary, and trainer, Thorne highly praised The Sword and Keg tavern, and complimented Nicole’s running of the establishment, saying she always served with a smile. He said in the past he had worked as a mercenary, but had always tried to choose employment he felt was noble, a sentiment that Shannon was lacking. Thorne felt the young woman had a skilled blade and a dangerous attitude, but she was too rash and foolhardy, feeling every problem could be solved by a sword. Throne remained confident he could beat her in a duel, though. His praised the adventuring prowess of his former companions, the bard Trian and the innkeeper Gremnor.[2]
Thorne was disgusted by the changes in Jhelom since Jonus became Guard Captain, feeling that he was constantly being scrutinized and watched by the man and his guards. It had reached the point where he had considered leaving the city permanently. He felt he was not alone in this discomfort, and only the sniveling shipwright Bantral was immune to this treatment. The adventurer especially worried about the mayor Fel, feeling he was a brilliant orator and skilled swordsman, but feared the mayor was unaware of his current danger.
A Valorous warrior, Thorne told the hero that he had meditated at the nearby Shrine of Valor many times, and would share the mantra of Valor if the Avatar agreed the true king of Britannia was Lord British. He warned the hero that there were many forces of darkness seeking the mantra and the Words of Power, and to talk to the bard Trian for information on the Word of Power for dungeon Destard.[3] Thorne hoped Lord British would soon return and cast aside Blackthorn’s rule.
If the Avatar met Thorne in the evenings at The Sword and Keg, the adventurer will regale the hero with an improbable tale of daring and adventure.
If the Avatar spoke to Jonus after joining the Oppression, the hero could betray the mantra of Valor, RA.[4]
Thorne teaches Death Blow, Battle Focus, and Recovery.
