Valor is one of the Eight Virtues of Britannia.

Description[edit]

Valor, founded on the principle of Courage, is the courage to take actions in support of one's convictions. It is the courage to uphold virtue, even in the face of a physical or psychological threat. The town of Jhelom on the Valorian Isles provides food and lodging to its fighters and students of Valor – their great devotion to this particular virtue in and out of battle allows them to improve their crucially important physical powers significantly.

The Shrine of Valor is situated on a island south of Jhelom.

Valor through the Ages[edit]

Various messages throughout the ages, given by the shrine or the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom, show how Valor does apply to the lives of people.

Ultima IV[edit]

Meditating at the Shrine of Valor will give these insights:

  • "Victories scored over evil creatures help to build a valorous soul!"
  • "To flee from battle with less than grievous wounds often shows a coward!"

Ultima V[edit]

Quest form the shrine: "'Tis now thy sacred Quest to go unto the Codex and learn the failing of a life without Valor!"

Answer from the Codex: "Those who fear to try, know not their limits and thus know not themselves."

Ultima VI[edit]

Wisdom of the shrine: "Tender-handed stroke a nettle, and it stings you for your pains. Grasp it as a man of mettle, and it soft as silk remains."

Blackthorn's Law[edit]

During Blackthorn's tyranny, Valor was twisted and turned into a draconian law: "Thou shalt fight to the death if challenged, or thou shalt be banished as a coward."

Valor is the courage to take actions in support of one's convictions.
Valor is the courage to uphold virtue, even in the face of a physical or psychological threat.
Valor is the cloak that protects the other seven virtues. Valor gathers selfish Courage and shares it with the beliefs that one holds and protects. Valor is tested again and again, and through it, one sees the portal to virtue. To demand valor of oneself is to lead the way for others to find it in their hearts.
