Elad, from Ultima VII
Species: Human
Ultima VII
Location: Moonglow

Elad is a healer living Moonglow during Ultima VII.

An open and well-meaning man, Elad seemed invested in the community around him and could prove a font of information regarding the various inhabitants of Moonglow. Unlike many of his contemporaries in medicine, the healer had little animosity with the Fellowship, who had only established themselves on Verity Isle in the past five years.[1]

Despite his contentedness with life in Moonglow, Elad appeared to have a sense of wanderlust calling to him. He was friends with the Observatory administrator, Brion, and often looked at the stars with him[2] - and had offered lodging to the traveling peddler, Addom, in exchange for hearing tales of the man's journeys. Despite this longing to see the wider world, however, Elad felt a sense of weighty responsibility to the community he tended. Although he would haltingly ask the Avatar if he might join the hero in their quest, he, himself, would admit that such a request was impossible - even should the Avatar wish him to join to their adventuring party.[3]

  • Elad's real world counterpart is Dale Flatt, a friend of Richard Garriott and caretaker of the Ultima creator's properties in Austin, Texas. Flatt also appears in Ultima VI as sailor Captain Elad, and his wife, Kathy, served as the inspiration for the Avatar's companion, Katrina.[4]
  • According to Lady Leigh in her discussion of healers for Anton's Key to the Black Gate, Elad specializes in the application of medicinal herbs.[5]
