Ultima VI auf Deutsch

Ultima VI auf Deutsch is a fan-patch created by Sir John which fully translates Ultima VI into German. It can be found at Die Heimstatt des Sir John. The latest version available is v1.70.

The Patch

When Ultima VI was released in 1990, a German translation was not. When the fan-project The Ultima 6 Project was released, Sir John translated it, which then formed the basis for his translation of the official game. There were difficulties, especially since a lot of work had to be done with hex editors and the spellbook was hardcoded, leading to spells having to be shortened. A special manual was created to explain the changes. The translation was done with the Ultima VI Translation Tools.

Due to the lack of a playtester, numerous errors remain, which will be fixed in future releases.

Installation

The original version of Ultima VI is needed for the patch. The patch files are then simply copied into the game directory, which is basically all that needs to be done to patch the game into German. The resulting game can then be played in DOSBox.

Features

The following features are part of the patch:

• Full and complete translation of all text in the game to German.
• Re-drawing of all English graphics into German graphics (as seen in the title screen).
• Due to the nature of the spellbook, most spells are abbreviated.
• Copy protection stays in English due to program code.
• All the fixes of the Ultima VI Nitpickers Delight Patch also apply here.
• The Quenton murder quest is now soluble. (Version 1.10 and up)
• The introduction and character creation now also feature umlauts (Version 1.50 and up)
• Jaana is capable of casting spells again, as she was in Ultima V and Ultima VII (Version 1.50 and up)
• When playing Ultima VI using the ScummVM engine, the patch will be recognized as a known game variant
