Die Heimstatt des Sir John is a German fansite run by Sir John Dragon. Sir John, also known as Serendipitous Dragon, is a prolific fan of the Ultima series and has often expressed disappointment that few titles were translated into German, and he has also been critical of the quality of the translation work that was done. Therefore, Sir John decided to do something about it. His goal is to translate the games that were not officially translated into German. This site hosts the finished products of his work, while his other site, Ungesundes Halbwissen, details the current progress of his various projects.
Projects[edit]
- The first work was actually done for The Ultima 6 Project, where Sir John was responsible for the creation of the German translation of the game. He also created the Sir John's Mod Installer for the game, which includes all the important mods for the English version that are also included in the German translation.
- Ultima VI auf Deutsch is a complete translation of Ultima VI into German. This proved to be challenging because of the text entry and the fact that everything had to be done by a hex editor. Some compromises had to be made, but with this patch, the game is a full German translation. A special PDF manual is included.
- The Ultima VI Nitpickers Delight Patch is a patch for the English version of Ultima VI intended to repair many of the inconsistencies in the game, mainly in the dialogues of the NPCs.
- Additionally to the translation, Sir John also offers the Ultima VI Translation Tools, which not only packages all the programs needed for a translation of the game but also includes a detailed guide on how to perform the work needed for a complete translation.
- He also completed a re-translation of the Memoirs of Sir Cabirus to fix the terrible original German translation of the manual. The manual is in PDF-format, with all the original formatting and illustrations.
- Ultima VII auf Deutsch is a complete translation of Ultima VII into German. However, the Forge of Virtue expansion was not. Additionally, the original translation was poorly done in parts. The patch provides a complete German translation of Black Gate and Forge of Virtue, including all graphics and voices. Re-translated manuals as PDF are included.
- The Ultima VII Nitpickers Delight Patch is a patch for the English version of Ultima VII intended to repair many of the inconsistencies in the game, mainly in the NPCs’ dialogue.
- Ultima VII Part Two auf Deutsch was the most complicated and time-consuming project for Sir John, since Serpent Isle was never translated into German. The patch translates both the main game and the Silver Seed expansion fully into German, including all graphics and voices. Re-translated manuals in PDF format are included.
- Ultima IX auf Deutsch is not a translation of Ultima IX. Instead, this is a patch to convert an English copy of Ultima IX into a German one. This includes all speech and cutscenes, which is why the patch is so big, and is needed due to the fact that only the English version of the game was sold.
Hosting[edit]
In addition, Sir John also hosts various other project files that were not created by him:
- The German translation for Ultima V: Lazarus, as it was done years ago.
- Various German translations of the original game manuals.
- The files for Ultima VI: Le Faux Prophète, which was created by Yves, also known as Docwise Dragon. Using basically the same tools as Sir John, he created a full translation of Ultima VI into French. Special PDF manuals are included in the download.
