Ultima VII reference guide
Ultima VII was distributed with a 6-page booklet that serves as a reference guide. Although its cover is titled PLAYER REFERENCE CARD, this document is a booklet.
Description[edit]
With the introduction of a new game engine, the guide for Ultima VII underwent corresponding changes. All technical matters were moved to a separate install guide, as was also done with Ultima Underworld, resulting in a more concise guide. After guiding the player through the start options, the reference provides a short walkthrough for the beginning of the game, then details the new user interface and its usage – including keyboard shortcuts. It also explains the spellbook, various character stats, and provides a detailed explanation of the combat options.
Other Editions[edit]
The guide, while retaining the same content, was altered for the European release to be a multilingual document, with sections in English, French, German, and Italian. Consequently, this made it significantly larger than its American counterpart. The Polish and Spanish versions are single-language editions. The release from Hit Squad in the UK had the styling of the multilingual release, but contained only the English section.
The American and European editions of The Complete Ultima VII contained their respective reference guides without alteration. The later budget release combined these with the install guide into a single booklet. In the European budget editions, the booklet was combined with the install guide and was printed only in the language of the market where it was sold. The Australian budget release of the combined booklet is the similar, but with a different form factor and cover.
