Map of Towne Linda |
Towne Linda is a town on Earth in the year 1423 B.C. It exists within the alternate time line created by Minax's interventions in Ultima II.
Description[edit]
Linda was a European settlement in the 15th century B.C. and seemingly under the dominion of Lord British, given the prominence with which his initials were displayed in the fountain at the center of town. Linda had modest commercial offerings, and had vendors for armaments and transport, as well a pub. A prostitute, name Ithilian, could also be found advertising her wares.[1]
Curiously enough, Linda had an inhabitant purporting to know about small computers – evidence of the anachronistic mixing of technology that transpired with the advent of the time doors.[2]
When Minax was defeated, Linda also disappeared.
Inhabitants[edit]
- Gerry Mayer: a woman claiming to "know" small computers[2]
- Ithilian The Wench: a prostitute[1]
- John Mayer: Gerry's husband, shouting for the trash to be taken out[3]
- Keith: a man who is trying to cut down on something[4]
Shops and Services[edit]
- Pub de Varg: pub
- The Armoury: armoury
- Weapons: arms dealer
- Transport shop
Trivia[edit]
- Richard Garriott's younger sister, Linda, lends her name to this city.[5]
- In reality, John and Geraldine "Gerry" Mayer were the married part-owners of the ComputerLand store where Garriott worked while coding Akalabeth. The Mayers were instrumental to Garriott's early success in the video game industry, as their suggestion that he self-publish Akalabeth and sell it at the store quickly led to California Pacific approaching the young developer with a nationwide distribution deal.[6][7][8]
- Another pub called Pub de Varg can be found in Britain in Ultima I.
- Linda appears in what would have been the territory of the archaic Aurunci people of Italy.
