The Village of the Preppies is a town on Jupiter in the year 2112 A.D. It appears to exist within the alternate time line created by Minax's interventions during Ultima II.
Description[edit]
The Village of the Preppies was a strange settlement which appeared to be populated by members of the New England subculture of preparatory school youth. The village included a dock for yachts, and inhabitants boasted about their comparative material wealth. In spite of this seeming prosperity, however, vast portions of the settlement were mired in swamp land, perhaps owing to the humid climate of the planet.
The majority of Earth's populace appeared unaware of Jupiter's habitability during the 22nd century, implying that the Stranger was likely the first adventurer to come upon the Preppies' settlement.[1] Given the obvious similarity between the culture of the village and the mores of Earth's upper middle class, however, it is feasible that the village may have been formed by Earth colonists and the presence of Dupre, a known native of earth, would substantiate this. Alternatively, there is also the possibility that the preppy subculture originated with Jupiterians and that it was somehow appropriated by Terran youth.
After the time doors closed and the ahistorical timeline became inaccessible, any other information about it is unknown.
Inhabitants[edit]
- Dupre: the future companion of the Avatar, caught up in a seeming game of "Wanna Buy a Duck?"[2]
- Johnny Jones: an individual looking for a duck[3]
- The Jocker: a poseur, who laughingly told the Stranger, "You're halfway there!"[4]
- The Pirate: a wealthy sailor bragging about his abundance of tassles
