Dragonskin boots
Dragonskin boots are crafted from the hide of a dragon, and as a result, they confer to their wearer the same protection from flame that such beasts enjoy. They appear in Ultima Underworld and Ultima Underworld II as well as in Runes of Virtue II and the Super Nintendo-port of Ultima VII.
Description[edit]
During the Avatar's imprisonment in the Abyss under the Baron Almric, the hero would be able to consult with the exile Marrowsuck to commission a pair of dragonskin boots, provided the hero prove able to procure both dragon scales and spider silk with which the ghoul might work. The former could be obtained from the mighty troll Sethar Strongarm, who would gladly offer the Avatar scales in exchange for a bowl of Rotworm Stew; the latter could be found through a careful search of the territories of the wolf spider Navrey Nighteyes on the first level of the Abyss.
Years later, during the Avatar's travels to Killorn Keep, the trader Kintara would offer the hero a pair of ruddy colored boots that she claimed to be sewn of dragon hide, but these turned out to be a cheap facsimile. The only means which the champion of the virtues could procure against the ravaging heat of lava during this adventure was the Leather Vest of Flameproof.
Runes of Virtue II[edit]
In Runes of Virtue II, the Avatar could purchase a pair of dragonskin boots from Budo of Buccaneer's Den for fifty gold pieces.
Ultima VII (SNES)[edit]
In the SNES-port of Ultima VII, a pair of “scale boots” could be found in the Heroes' Hole. They would protect their wearer not only from lava, but also from the damage incurred by walking over rough stalactite-covered terrain.
