Artifact armor

Artifact armor is the combination of six unique magical armor pieces found in Britannia during in Ultima IX.

Description[edit]

Each piece by itself has a special power, which can be used even if no other pieces are equipped. Apart from its magical properties, artifact armor provides an armor value slightly better than leather armor.

The pieces, their powers, and their locations are as follows (sort the table by location to get the rough order of game progression):[1]

Piece Power Location
Crown of Radiance It illuminates the surroundings. 4. Found on the third level of dungeon Covetous.
Chest of the Troll It slowly heals the wearer. 6. Found in dungeon Destard in the dragon's treasure chamber.
Arms of the Magi They reduce mana useage. 3. Found on Verity Isle in a shipwreck guarded by the thief Ella.
Legs of Sentri They increase jumping range. 5. Found in a lake near Trinsic.
Gauntlets of Fury They improve attack strength. 1. Found in Buccaneer's Den, following the second map sold by Keagan.
Swamp boots They protect against swamp poisoning. 2. Found in dungeon Hythloth.
Boots of Levitation They allow the Avatar to walk on air in Ambrosia. 2. Found in Ambrosia following the directions by the nameless gargoyle.

Protective Value[edit]

Lore[edit]

“ A warrior searches for new and better protection as if by instinct. Where invention flowers, forms of armament that defy the conventions can be found. Armorers continue to uncover protective properties in the treated bone and skin of nature's exotic creatures. These are combined with new materials forged in Britannia's smithies. Among a warrior's findings will be forms treated with magical blessings.

Trivia[edit]

  • The Arms of the Magi are also the starting equipment of the mage class.
  • The Boots of Levitation exhibit their power only when used in Ambrosia, because they draw their power from the magical dome that covers the city.
  • In order to activate the regeneration effect of the Chest of the Troll after reloading a saved game, the Avatar should unequip and re-equip it (after every single reload). This is probably a bug.
