A Shield of Monitor is a mundane shield with the green coat of arms of Monitor painted on the front. It appears in Ultima VII Part Two: Serpent Isle.
Description[edit]
These shields are found en masse in that city's borders, and can be seen as the most-used shield by those within. They have all the same benefits and hindrances as normal shields - it's just a custom paintjob. A teleport storm exchanged one of these with Dupre's Shield and Luther misused this situation, until defeated in a sparring match by the Avatar in order to regain the special shield.
Protective Value[edit]
- Monitor shields have a defensive value of 2.[1]
Trivia[edit]
- The design for Monitor's coat of arms painted onto the shield (as seen above) originates, albeit inverted, from the heraldic device adopted by Ultima VII Part Two programmer Eric Brown when participating in the Society for Creative Anachronism as Sir Caladin Ironhearth.[2]
