Teleport storms
The teleport storms are a natural phenomenon that displace or transmute objects unexpectedly, caused by the Imbalance in Ultima VII Part Two.
Description[edit]
According to Beyond the Serpent Pillars, these storms had started some time before the game itself, since Erstam at the end writes about one of these starting outside of his cottage. This coincides with the fact that the freeing of the first of the Banes of Chaos by Batlin started the storms, and they became worse with each freed Bane.
The storms are very dangerous, and make sea-travel impossible, as ships seem to draw the lightning to themselves. The storms come in three varieties of lightning, each with their unique colors and effects:
- Green: Transmutation (object is turned into something else)
- Yellow: Transportation (object is exchanged with another object)
- Red: Teleportation (object is moved to another place)
These storms not only affected Serpent Isle, because it was once part of greater Sosaria, the storms also appeared in Britannia shortly after the Avatar left, causing havoc there as well. They became so strong that even the Royal Mint was exchanged with a lighthouse. In the end, the storms were stopped when the Avatar restored Balance.
Lore[edit]
“ | As I sit back in momentary relaxation, free from my self-appointed task as scribe, I am able to cease observing my surroundings and begin absorbing them. I can hear the crackle of the fire and the buzzing of a bothersome fly. I can hear a roar outside — no doubt another teleportation storm preparing to rage across the landscape. And I can hear the sound of shutters clattering against the window sill. |
