Chamfort is the blacksmith at the Arms of Justice in Yew during the events of Ultima V.

When the Avatar encountered Chamfort and asked about the Resistance, he became suspicious. However, mentioning Terrance of Britain, whom the party may have spoken to previously about the Resistance, Chamfort came around. Knowing the Avatar had spoken to Terrance, he asked the Avatar if they would like to lend a hand to the Resistance. Upon accepting the offer, Chamfort directed them to see a fellow named Landon, the leader of the Resistance, whose secret hideout could be accessed through the fireplace in Chamfort's workplace.[1]
Finally, the Avatar, now agreeing to aid the Resistance, learned of its password: DAWN.
Ultima V: Lazarus[edit]

In Ultima V: Lazarus, Chamfort told the Avatar that he thought it best to stay out of government affairs, and willingly admitted to wanting nothing to do with the Oppression.[2] In fact, the Avatar later learned that Chamfort was highly involved with the Resistance via Terrance.[3] Ronan told the Avatar about the falling out between Tactus and Chamfort over working for the Oppression,[4] and if the hero questioned Chamfort about this, the blacksmith would request the Avatar send a message to Tactus apologizing for some of the things said between them.
Lady Guinere asked the Avatar to convince Chamfort to supply a shipment of weapons to help defend against an orc invasion that threatens Skara Brae and Yew.[5] If the hero told Chamfort that the threat was real, the blacksmith would provide the goods.
Chamfort would provide the secret of how to reach Landon, and the key to the Resistance headquarters should the Avatar mention that he was sent by Terrance. Later, at the request of Landon,[6] the Avatar could pick up a shipment of weapons for the Resistance, which needed to be distributed to Ean in Jhelom and Vigil in Britanny North. Chamfort at this time gave the hero the mantra of Justice.
Should the Avatar present Landon with a copy of the black badge, Chamfort would assist the Resistance by making counterfeit symbols.
