Tactus is the blacksmith of Minoc during the time of Ultima V.

The Avatar found Tactus busy in the Darkwatch Armoury, believing his armour to be the best in the land. Talking longer to him, he would speak highly of Lord Blackthorn and his role as Britannia’s leader. If the Avatar chose the careful path and pretended to agree, Tactus revealed that he knew Judge Dryden, suggesting the hero ask him about the Oppression and mention Tactus' name to the judge.[1]
With this information, the Avatar could find a way into the Oppression.
Ultima V: Lazarus[edit]

In Ultima V: Lazarus, Tactus highly praised his master Shenstone, saying they had done extremely well under Blackthorn’s regime, and sales had increased substantially. He felt he was already a better smith than his master, at least at making chain mail, mainly because it was tedious work and Shenstone delegated it to him entirely. Tactus told the hero he specialized in chain and coifs, saying that leather was often too light and plate simply too heavy for adventurers on long marches.[2]
The blacksmith felt Blackthorn had done a great job for Britannia, and under his rule the poor were better taken care of, trade was up, and banditry was down. If the Avatar agreed with Tactus' sentiment, he requested the hero to speak to Judge Dryden, saying the man may have tasks available for improving Britannia.[3] Tactus disagreed with the sentiment of the Resistance, feeling all they did was stir up trouble, and did nothing to solve the ills facing Britannia or rescuing Lord British.
If the Avatar relayed Chamfort’s message that he was sorry for insulting Tactus' craftmanship,[4] the young apprentice would be moved by the hero's words, saying that Chamfort was a good man, but he was a fool for refusing to do business with the Oppression. Tactus felt that Lord Blackthorn was now firmly in control of Britannia, and used his connection with Judge Dryden to find an apprenticeship with Shenstone in Minoc.
Tactus denied Delwyn’s rumor that Captain Blythe commissioned him to make manacles, saying the sailor already had his own irons from his sailing days.[5]
