In Ultima V: Lazarus, Ronan had spent his younger years as a trapper and furrier, exploring the breadth of Britannia. He explained to the Avatar how he learned to be shrewd in the ways of business by dealing with Renayl the provisioner. After getting injured during one of his journeys, and having to spend a spell recuperating with Madam Pendra, he decided to take up a safer line of work, working as salesman for Chamfort the smith.[1]
Ronan told the Avatar how Tactus, Chamfort's former apprentice, had had a disagreement with his master over the wisdom of supplying arms for the Oppression. As a result, Tactus left Chamfort and took up an apprenticeship with Shenstone in Minoc.
