The Keyring Mod is a modification for Exult that adds a number of quests and features to Ultima VII: The Black Gate. It is maintained by Marzo Sette Torres Junior and is available from the Exult source code repository or from Marzo's homepage: Seven Towers. The patch requires the newest Exult snapshot to run.

Improvements[edit]

Improved Shrine of The Codex

The mod has numerous improvements, including:

  • A quest to obtain a keyring, a feature originally only implemented in Ultima VII: Serpent Isle. The quest introduces several new NPCs and several new structures on the world map. Also, all keys possessed by the party can be added by using the keyring on the Avatar.
  • The 'Interactions' mod by Alun Bestor, which enables the use of many items whose function had not been implemented by the programmers. This includes milking cows and using the milk to make cheese, or shearing sheep to get wool.
  • Lock Lake cleanup – when the bill is signed, the lake is gradually cleaned up over several days. Once done, Lord Heather reports that a key (for Mack's shed) was found and gives it to the Avatar.
  • An improved Orb of the Moons, which now allows direct passage to the shrines. Diagonal moongates are enabled as well.
  • Fully functional shrines and shrine quests. Once one has the appropriate rune, praying at the shrines allows going on a quest to the Codex. If one does this seven times and does not having access to the Shrine of Spirituality, the white stone becomes aligned to this shrine. Doing all quests provides a reward and another quest becomes available.
  • The Shrine of the Codex was completely revamped to make it more resemble the one in Ultima VI, complete with the flames of Infinity and Singularity. It also has more details to suggest the presence of the otherwise absent Codex.
  • Improved keeps of the principles. Empath Abbey, the Lycaeum and Serpent's Hold now hold the appropriate Flames of the Principles as well as the three corresponding items.
  • The Shrine of Spirituality got moved to a new map and altered to resemble the shrine in Ultima VI. The other shrines also got their appearance altered.
  • And much more...
