Laurianna is a powerful mage found in the Keyring Mod for Ultima VII.

Description[edit]

A mage of extraordinary natural ability, Laurianna was born north of the Shrine of Sacrifice under the disturbance of the Guardian’s Tetrahedron Generator, and was thus rendered near insane from birth by its perturbance. Having accidentally destroyed her natural parents through a catastrophic release of magical energies while just a babe, her adopted dragon father Zauriel had kept her powers in check as she grew into adulthood. After many years of research, he had at last devised a potion which would reduce her magical abilities and render her finally sane, but just before its completion, he had been attacked by the mad mage Laundo, who wished to steal her powers for his own. The mage had cleverly devised a necklace capable of destroying Laurianna if any magic user powerful enough to defeat Laundo, such as Zauriel himself, approached.

The Avatar managed to defeat Laundo with Zauriel's assistance, and found the disturbed young woman rooted into the earth from Laundo's magic, unable to move. Harassed by invisible demons, the young woman was unstable, rapidly fluctuating between extreme emotions of anger, frustration, and child-like glee. Even in this state, her extraordinary powers were readily evident. If the Avatar gave her Zauriel's potion, the young woman immediately returned to her senses, and could use the blackrock provided by the hero to remove her necklace, immediately freeing her from Laundo's spell which held her in place. She explained after this that her stepfather was capable of seeing past, present, and future, and that he had accurately predicted the Avatar’s role in her rescue, and that her kidnapping had been necessary for her final cure.

After returning to her stepfather, Laurianna remembered that her father's death at the hero's hand was required for her final restoration to sanity. After the battle, with Zauriel destroyed, Laurianna told the hero she harbored no ill will for killing her father, for Zauriel had predicted his death many years prior, and accepted it as necessary for his daughter's cure. Laurianna explained that her father had been insane prior to the alteration of the ether waves, so had instead gained clarity by their ministrations. He knew the Avatar would soon destroy the Tetrahedron Generator, and sought his own death so as to not cause more harm to Britannia upon his upcoming return to insanity. Zauriel had even seen this as a way to atone for his past crimes. His own sanity had been woven in with that of his daughter, and with his loss of life, his sanity was transferred to Laurianna.

With her new found sanity, Laurianna engaged in a quest to finally discover herself. She parted ways with the Avatar to study with the monks of Empath Abbey, requesting that the hero return her father's journal to her after reading it. She would go on to live in the healer's house with Reyna, and was taking lessons from the scholar Perrin when the hero met her next. She would give the hero the magical keyring which she had designed for her father, for he had always absentmindedly lost his keys. She could further sell the hero reagents at this time.
