Cyrrus (also known as Holy Cyrrus) is an apprentice theurgist on Argentrock Isle. He appears in Ultima VIII.

Description[edit]

Cyrrus was the son of the torax farmers Corinth and Gwillim, and grew up tending his parents' herds in the valley north of Tenebrae. At a young age, he witnessed the death of his infant sister at the fangs of a marauding kith, and the event left an indelible mark on his psyche and led him to develop his gifts as a healer.[1]

As a youth, he was tutored by the scholar Bentic alongside Darion's daughter Jenna, and grew deeply attracted to the young woman, fantasizing that some day they might be wed. Despite his longing, however, he felt that his calling to the order of theurgists superseded his desires and left for Argentrock when he came of age, studying the healing arts under Stellos.[2]

While on the island, he roomed with Torwin and became close to him, leading him to ultimately cover for his friend when the apprentice was suspected in the theft of one of Xavier's foci.[3] The Avatar questioned Cyrrus while investigating the matter, and using the Hear Truth spell learned of Torwin's odd behavior regarding the stolen item, leading to a confrontation at Windy Point before the brash youth leaped to his death.

Cyrrus was grieved at the loss of his companion, and was further troubled following the Avatar's theft of the Breath of Air - an act which robbed the theurgists of their healing powers. Still, the boy felt an awkward sense of bittersweetness at the death of Theurgy, as he realized he could return to Tenebrae in the hopes of winning Jenna's hand.

Trivia[edit]

  • Should the Avatar speak to Jenna about Cyrrus, she will claim that she finds him dull and has no interest in marrying him.[4]
