Species: human
Appearances
Ultima VII
Location: Vesper

Yongi is owner and proprietor of the Gilded Lizard tavern in Vesper during Ultima VII.

Description[edit]

A jovial man with a fondness for drink, Yongi was one of the few townsfolk who seemed to genuinely enjoy his lot in Vesper. Rumored to have used his business as a cover for his alcoholism, the doughy man kept odd hours, not waking to open his establishment until after noon.[1][2]

Comparable to Blorn in his racist hatred of the local gargish townsfolk, the barkeep played into widespread fears that the gargoyles would attack the humans of the settlement without provocation, and backed his friend up in his feud against Lap-Lem.[3]

Lore[edit]

If thou dost not believe me, just ask Yongi at the Gilded Lizard. Whether sober or not, he will be more than happy to enlighten thee on the evils of the Gargoyles.

Trivia[edit]

  • Yongi is the author of a mixology book entitled That Beer Needs a Head on It!, in which he indexes a number of popular beverages.
  • Like most bartenders in Ultima VII, Yongi will greet Dupre if he is present in the party.[4]
  • Dialogue in the Ultima VII usecode appears for Yongi which implies that Cador and Mara may be killed in a barroom brawl, similarly to Anmanivas and Foranamo – although this incident does not appear to be reproducible in gameplay.[5]
  • In an earlier draft of the Ultima VII indicates that Yongi comments on the fight between the Avatar, Cador and Mara as well. According to him it is all the Gargoyles fault that all this happened.[6]
  • In the SNES-port of Ultima VII, Yongi recants his racist sentiments regarding the gargoyles after the truth regarding Blorn's assault on Lap-Lem comes to light.[7]
