Species: human
Appearances
Ultima Underworld II
Location: Killorn Keep

Mystell is an ambitious official serving at Killorn Keep. She appears in Ultima Underworld II.

Description[edit]

Mystell had aims at rising to a better position than a petty bureaucrat in a remote desert castle, and was keen to ferret out the Guardian's opponents in the hopes of being promoted. Seizing on the suspicious nature of Altara's arrival at Killorn, the cunning woman did her best to find evidence of the sorceress' revolutionary attitudes, but had little success on her own.

Should the Avatar be able to answer a series of security questions and convince Mystell of serving her interests, the calculating woman would enlist the hero's aid in finding evidence of Altara's disloyalty, offering to pay for services rendered. Should the Avatar provide her with a ritual dagger given by the enchantress for the purpose of killing one of the Guardian's servitors, Mystell would accept it as evidence of Altara's guilt, and would promise to pay the hero once the Guardian issued orders for her arrest.[1]

Later, when Mors Gotha arrived to take command of Killorn Keep, Mystell would find herself wracked with doubt about whether the Guardian would ever reward her loyalty and would be overworked with anxiety regarding her apparent lack of worth to her master.[2]

Lore[edit]

Mystell, a petty bureaucrat, has won herself considerable influence here. She hopes to win favor with the Guardian by informing on the treasonous activities of those around her — her spies are everywhere. If thou canst win her trust, she may offer thee valuable information, so it might be worth thy while to allow her to recruit thee as an informer. She is cunning, though, and hard to fool. Before speaking with her, spend some time in the eating hall, familiarizing thyself with the ways of our world.

Trivia[edit]

  • The male Avatar can decide to identify as Abraham Lincoln to Mystell, and she will accept it as a truthful answer.[2]
  • Mystell offers to pay the Avatar a sum of thirty coins for betraying Altara, echoing the amount paid to Judas for his betrayal of Christ.
  • Mystell will grow suspicious of the Avatar after killing Relk, refusing to believe the man's death to be accidental.[2]
  • Mystell can also be found on the ethereal plane, believing herself to have been sent there in her dreams by the Guardian, that she might seek out the Shrine of Spirituality.[2]
